I realize that using headphone just like buying cars is subjective to the individual, but what we did was to take the headphones and had 3 people listen to them to determine their view on how well they worked with various types of music.
The first music we listened to was from an all girl group called 'Bond", they combine classical, salsa and rock to make a one of kind audio experience. Having seen them in concert before I know what the music is meant to sound like. The next group of songs were some early and later Queen, paying special attention to Freddie Mercury's vocals and falsettos. The last group of songs were from a Northern European Goth Metal band - "Within Temptation, with a proper set of cans on your ears this ground can test your eardrum along with shaking a few fillings out of your head.
To develop a base-line by which to go by we listened to the same musical tracks using a set of KOSS PortaPro Headphones. These headphone are of about the same price range and they will be rated on 1 to 10 scale. 1 being the worse and 10 the best

With a price tag of $23.95 you are not going to get the best headphones on the market especially when you look at the price of say the Bose headphones which will run you about $300.00 a pair. The Zalman ZM-DS4F Dual Stereo Headphones will serve you will and the best part is if they eventually break or get lost you will not lose your mind because of the incident.
So there you have it, if you need a set of headphone to listen to your MP3 player, to watch movie, use them to play games on your computer you can latch on to these for about the price of 5-lattes
A special thanks to Zalman US for their continued support
