The Altec Lansing iM414 is constructed of high quality ABS plastic and after examining the unit we found the fit and finish was as close to perfect as you can get.  We turned up the flash on our camera so we could get a better look at the speakers used inside the unit and they appear to be 1.5" domed speakers with built-in tweeters on each speaker.  Under normal lighting conditions the speakers are not visible through the grill on the unit.

Looking at the unit from the side you might wonder why the unit is shaped the way it is.  Since this device is designed entirely for the ears it only makes sense to have the speakers pointed upwards towards the ears of who ever is listening.  The wire you see projecting from the rear of the unit is the FM radio antenna.  Surprisingly the unit weighted more than I thought it would, to give you some idea of the what the weight on the unit is, the display carton with the radio and accessories inside weights in at 3.5 lbs.

Moving on to the display, from here you can tell a great deal about the status of your system. You can tell if the "Surround Sound" effect is turned on, as well as the "Bass Boost" and whether you're listening to "FM Stereo".  On the other side of the display you the Zune indicator that lets you know the Zune is docked properly.  Next we have Auxillary indicator which tell you you have an outside source attached to the iM414. Finally we have the "FM Radio" indicator which lets you know you are using the radio built into the iM414.

Each side of the operational control panel has three controls on it, on the left side we have the "Power Button", "Volume -" and "Volume +".  You can also see the docking port for the Zune located in the center of the control panel.

The docking port for the Zune gave use some fits when we first tried to use it, we later determined that the reason we were not making a good connect was because both units were new and the fit was to tight. Once we had plugged the Zune in and out of the cradle about 15 times the unit now connects on the first try.
