If you think back on what have been the hot items over the decade or so and you might agree with me when I say it started off with laptop computer. This gave the business man and woman the ability to be far more productive and it allowed them to be away from their desk and still do the work that used to require a desktop computer.
The next item I would put in this group would the netbook or compact size laptop. Thanks to the reduced size and price tag this has allowed students that never could afford a laptop computer to obtain one and integrate it into their school work and thus make their scholarly lives far easier.
The final item I think has to be tablet, with the introduction of the Apple iPad we have once again seen Steve Jobs one-handedly drive the computer industry in a new direction. To say that we have seen all that laptops have to offer is like saying "We went to the Moon so we know what space looks like."
