D-LINK FIRST COMPANY TO OFFER GREEN WI-FI HOME NETWORKING PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 28 July 2008

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., July 28, 2008 - D-Link today became the first manufacturer to produce Green home network Wi-Fi routers capable of saving up to 40 percent in power usage.

The end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumer and business, D-Link is expanding its Green Initiative by adding eco-friendly features to its award-winning Xtreme N™ line of Wi-Fi Internet routers to decrease energy costs by reducing power consumption without sacrificing performance.

The Wi-Fi routers integrate D-Link® Green Ethernet™ technology, an innovative energy-saving technology that automatically detects link status and network cable length, then adjusts power accordingly. The D-Link routers also feature Wi-Fi scheduling that allows customers to easily program when the Wi-Fi radio signals are turned on and off to further save energy consumption.

Now shipping and incorporating the Green technology are the D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router (DIR-655), D-Link Xtreme N Duo™ Media Router (DIR-855), and the D-Link Xtreme N Gaming Router (DGL-4500).

"D-Link is working to take the lead in integrating innovative, power-saving technology into our home and business networking solutions that doesn't sacrifice performance or functionality," said Steven Joe, president and CEO of D-Link Systems, Inc. "By offering green upgrades to some of our most popular Wi-Fi routers, we're helping protect the environment while our customers save money in the process."

The D-Link Green Wi-Fi Routers achieve optimal energy savings when used with the Wi-Fi Scheduler, which provides a user-selectable radio shutdown option (adjustable by day and start/end times). Under the most favorable conditions with no wired links active and Wi-Fi turned off, users may achieve the following power savings when compared to a D-Link conventional router without Green technology: DIR-655, up to 32%; DIR-855, up to 41%; and DGL-4500, up to 31%.

Along with the Green upgrade, the selected D-Link routers now support Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), a much larger address space that allows greater flexibility in allocating addresses and routing traffic, offering benefits such as hierarchical addressing structure, additional security and greater mobility.

The introduction of the Green Ethernet enabled D-Link Wi-Fi Router series is part of an ongoing company-wide 'Green' computing initiative that includes manufacturing environmentally-responsible products, optimizing devices for ENERGY STAR certification, providing consumer education and recycling programs, and distributing the network technology industry brief titled "Green Computing and D-Link: The Green Movement and Specific D-Link Solutions Reduce Detrimental Impacts on the Environment."

The incorporation of Green Ethernet technology into Xtreme N series routers re-emphasizes D-Link's strong commitment to protecting the environment, leading to the development of eco-friendly products that comply with RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directives.  The RoHS directive limits the use of specific hazardous materials during the manufacture of electrical and electronic goods while WEEE applies standards for proper disposal and recycling of products.

"The time is right to offer consumers and organizations innovative Green technologies that embrace environmental concerns, offer cost savings and maximize performance," Joe added.

rice and Availability

The D-Link DIR-655, DIR-855 and DGL-4500 are all available now through D-Link's network of retail outlets, value-added resellers, solution providers and distributors, or at the company's online store, www.dlinkshop.com, for the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $149.99 for the DIR-655, $359.99 for the DIR-855 and $239.99 for the DGL-4500.

Variation in functionality-Lancool cases cater for all.

22 July 2008, Keelung, Taiwan – Today the PC-K12 midi chassis is launched under the Lancool brand. This is a Midi-Tower case with 9x 5.25” bays giving you plenty of options and tonnes of room. The strength of the Lancool series lies not only in the structure, but also  in the features, which include support for the modular patented anti-vibration HDD cage, supporting 3x HDD’s. Each HDD is mounted with a special thumbscrew and rubber grommet to ensure that HDD’s are secure and vibration free. The modular cage can be secured as you see fit within the roomy interior of the case. It has a120mm fan mounted into the bracket, making sure that the HDD’s are cooled and that air flow is optimal according to your needs. Incorporating outstanding quality and craftsmanship; the Lancool series have a steel inner-core, making them stronger than all-aluminum chassis, but also considerably cheaper.

The front door has a lock and extra sound padding to prevent noise from being an issue. It can be arranged to open either from the left or the right according to your needs. The side panel has special clips to secure it vibration free into place giving the chassis a finely crafted look and feel. The PC-K12 has a120mm extraction fan (1000RPM) at the back, and a 120mm intake fan (1000RPM) on the front, with silent padding on the front door to reduce noise levels from the internal components. The PSU is mounted at the back top and has a special support bracket to secure your PSU against any movement. It also supports extra big PSU’s conveniently. Transporting the case should be hassle free with everything securely in place. The Lancool products include an all aluminum chassis exterior, giving the case the traditional hair-line brushed finish with black anodizing, while the internals have finely honed edges to keep up high safety standards.

The PC- K12 has been designed for the LAN power user, so they are wide and rigid, using the minimalist style where every aspect is well thought out and has a specific purpose, especially if you are a modder. The outer shell; all in aluminum, is easily cut and modified, while the internal core; made of steel is 40% stronger than an all-aluminum case. The added rigidity makes these cases ideal for carting around to LAN’s.

Additional features of the PC-K12 include a removable motherboard tray for easy installation, vent holes on the PCI slot brackets, 7x PCI slots, 5x 5.25” bays (one is interchangeable with a 3.5” bay), special clips to secure ODD’s tool-lessly; simply insert the ODD and it clips into place directly. There is an I/O bracket with dust cover on the top panel, with 2x USB2.0 / 1x IEEE1394 / and HD+AC97 Audio capabilities. Both chassis support full ATX and micro-ATX form factor motherboards and have cable management clips on the underside of the motherboard tray. The top panel can be removed or replaced and is another convenience for water cooling enthusiasts out there, who can also find a set of pre-bored holes for water pipes.
